The Asian Culture Club at HPHS held its second annual Diwali celebration amidst a flurry of sparklers and cheers! Junior Siya Verma came up with the idea of sharing her culture with others as she felt there wasn't much representation. Despite Diwali being a significant festival, there wasn't much celebration in this small town. Siya wanted the club to bring enjoyment and inclusion, showing that all cultures are appreciated regardless of the town size. This year, people from all around town and the school were invited to watch a Bollywood movie, light diyas, and sparklers, and enjoy Indian foods together. The event ran smoothly with the help of advisors and club members, and during the event, club members held a food sale of samosas, bhel, pav bhaji, sweets, and more. The money earned from the event will be used for future club activities, including a field trip and a Lunar New Year event in 2024, thanks to a donation from the HP Human Relations Chair. The Asian Culture Club is excited to host future cultural celebrations in town! Thanks so much to their advisors Subi Pallithazhath and Yaling Phillippi for helping our students make these cultural celebrations possible!
