Omar Edwards' Soul on Tap sponsored by Creative Talent Group and Ms. Susan Settles

Our students were treated to a performance of "The Soul on Tap", a community show featuring internationally recognized Tap-dancer/ foot musician Broadway’s Omar Edwards in a rhythmic tribute to the American Art form of Tap dance".  Mr. Edwards and his band mates  focused today's show on good health and good vibes since many of our students are dealing with issues of anxiety and depression post pandemic. In Mr. Edwards’s words, “I use the Tap-dance vocabulary to speak the language of music to the audience. My feet sing, dance, and recite poetry.  I call my dance Afro-feet/ Honoring the Spirit of the Ancestors".  Ms. Settles, who is now in charge of the Creative Talent Group, was the second Black teacher hired in our district and served our community for over 30 years.  The entire high school student body and staff enjoyed the performance which helped us celebrate as a school together.  As Mr. Edwards stated, we can choose to be "Wise or Wounded" in the face of adversity.  As I explained to him, our OWLS will always choose to be Wise!
